Sentence in Passive Voice

I never knew that many prof and writing instructors do not like the passive voice in an article. This article can be important for all of those who write technical or scientific articles.

First of all, removing passive voice from sentences all together is impossible and incorrect, because sometimes we do need to say something in passive, the document below justifies when and when not to use passive voice.

It is extremely important to read the document first, and then I would recommend you to set up the passive voice feature provided by word. You can tell word to detect passive voices if any in your document which is somewhat similar to what word does when you use spellings suggestions.

Here it goes…

1. Click menu-item Tools->Options. You will get a box with title “options”.

2. Select the tab titled “Spellings and Grammar”.

3. There are 3 divisions in the tab “spellings and grammar”- Spelling, Grammar, proofing tools. Under the Grammar, click on Settings button.

4. Here you can search for the checkbox corresponding to “passive sentences”. Check that checkbox, and click OK (A word of advice, dont care about how many OK’s you have to click, just CLICK it….)
