Table of Figure
Around 2 years or 3 years back, I started writing any task which appeared as a challenge to me. But over time, I couldn’t follow it up or left it some where.
Well, blog, I guess can solve that purpose of mine. So, it is a place where I can publish my experiences and personal feelings and any task that I find challenging.
So, today, I was doing one such task which if I say is challenging, would be like making fun of myself, however, it is worth documenting, because I did the same thing in Dec 2007 and now couldn’t recall it, so doing it again. The task is to generate table of figures dynamically in Word.
So, here is, how it goes…(All my friends who are doing PhD will need to do this when they will start writing their thesis)
(which you have to do anyway
)))), sounds a silly one, huh)
I am assuming that, you have a document with some text and figures.
1. Select the first figure – we will create the caption for it.
2. Go To menu-item Insert->Reference->Caption, some think like figure below will show-up.
3. In the Caption Text Box, enter the relevant text for this image. Choose the position to be “Below Selected Item”. Finally, Click Ok
4. Repeat step 2 and 3 for all the figures in your document.
(Steps 2, 3 and 4 are said to be assigning caption to the images)
5. After you are done with assigning caption to images in your document, Place the cursor at the location in your document where you want to put the table of figures. This location is generally in the beginning some where.
6. Go to menu-item Insert->Reference->Index & Tables. Click OK.
Though there is lot you can do in step 6, but then it is a personal preference, I wanted to make this tutorial easier, that’s why didn’t delved much into the step 6.
